Blaze Ensemble is a London-based chamber ensemble. Our output ranges from works for small wind ensemble through to chamber orchestra. The ensemble was formed in 1997 and currently gives up to nine concerts each season. Blaze Ensemble performs in all the major lunchtime recital venues in central London. Last year (2015/2016) our London concerts featured performances at St Martin-in-the-Fields, St Bride's, St James's Piccadilly, Blackheath Concert Halls, and St Olave's in the City. We like including contemporary works in many of our programmes. In the 2016/17 season we gave the first London performance of Chris Gunning's Concertino for Flute and small orchestra. To mark our 20th Birthday we are giving a concert at St Martin-in-the-Fields on May 30th featuring a new work, Fire Dances, by Paul Pritchard.

English conductor George Vass studied at the Birmingham Conservatoire and the Royal Academy of Music. He made his professional conducting debut at St John's, Smith Square, London and as Artistic Director of the Regent Sinfonia of London and Orchestra Nova.  As a guest conductor he has worked with a wide variety of ensembles including the Bournemouth Symphony, Royal Liverpool Philharmonic, Royal Scottish National and Ulster orchestras, the Amsterdam Promenade Orkest, Konzertensemble, Salzburg, The Joyful Company of Singers, The London Mozart Players, Malmö Opera Orchestra, Moravian Philharmonic Orchestra, the Choir of Merton College Oxford, Schola Cantorum of Oxford and Oxford Orchestra da Camera. He has held the post of Artistic Director of the Presteigne Festival since 1992. He is founder Artistic Director of Nova Music and currently serves the Bushey Symphony Orchestra, City of Canterbury Chamber Choir and St Albans Choral Society as Music Director.

Bristol-born flautist Ruth Harrison studied on a scholarship at Guildhall School of Music & Drama, where she learnt with Sarah Newbold, Philippa Davies, Ian Clarke and Gareth Davies. She has appeared at Barbican Hall, Wigmore Hall and St George's Church, Brandon Hill, and last year performed at Milton Court as soloist in the BBC SO Total Immersion on Henri Dutilleux. Orchestrally, Ruth has performed with numerous groups across London including the Arch Sinfonia, Barbican Chamber Orchestra and ULSO (University of London Symphony Orchestra). Since 2015 she has been invited to join the Musique Cordiale International Festival, France. In 2017 she has been invited to join the Chipping Campden Festival Academy Orchestra, as well as the Britten-Pears Young Artist Programme, conducted by Marin Alsop. Since graduating with a First from GSMD last year, Ruth has been studying privately on a Countess of Munster Award with Robert Winn (Cologne) and Christopher Green (Royal Opera House), and performs with the flute/cello/piano group, the Cadran Trio.
