Soprano Laura Monaghan studied at Trinity Laban Conservatoire of Music and Dance with Linda Hirst and Robert Aldwinkle, where she was the Drapers' and the Robinson Hearn scholar. Laura is a chorister at Finnish National Opera and Opera Holland Park, and she has performed recently at St Martin-in-the-Fields, Blackheath Halls, Great Yarmouth Minster and Buxton Festival Fringe, where her recital of Strauss' Four Last Songs was awarded Best Vocal Performance.

She created the role of Maid in Gala by Ergo Phizmiz at Tête à Tête: The Opera Festival, and other roles include Despina, Serpina, Adina, Miss Wordsworth, Eurydice and Susanna. Laura's engagements for 2016 included the roles of La Cugina (Madama Butterfly) for Bury Court Opera, Despina (Cosi fan tutte) for Dulwich Opera Comany, Second Flower Maiden (Parsifal) for Elemental Opera, and Victorian (Alice's Adventures in Wonderland) at Opera Holland Park where she also joined the chorus of Iris, La Bohème and Queen of Spades.

Paul McKenzie is a collaborative pianist, living in London. He works with soloists, choirs and opera companies (including Longborough Festival Opera), as well as his continued employment at the Royal College of Music. Previously he was the holder of the Adami Award for Piano Accompanists Junior Fellowship at the RCM, and completed a Masters in Piano Accompaniment, studying with Simon Lepper. Before this he studied as a solo pianist at the Royal Welsh College of Music and Drama, with a scholarship, under the tutelage of Michael Young, during which time he won the Jacobson Prize, Eric Hodges Beethoven Prize and received the Philippa Whitelaw Yardley Memorial Award. Paul has worked as a concerto soloist, recitalist, orchestral pianist, in piano trios, accompanist, in musical theatre, repetiteur, jazz pianist, and writes electronic music.

The Opera Box is delighted to welcome soprano Laura Monaghan and accompanist Paul McKenzie to perform the next of the company's series of staged song recitals. Laura studied at Trinity Laban Conservatoire of Music and Dance, and has recently performed with Opera Holland Park, and at the Buxton Festival, Wilton's Music Hall and Blackheath Halls. The Opera Box is a new opera company exploring little-performed operas with small casts, and staged song cycle repertoire. They recently staged their first production as part of the Totally Thames Festival and will return to the festival this autumn with several new projects.
