The Artist
James Kellas is the Director of Music at St Martin’s Church, Ruislip, where he plays for three services per week and trains the amateur choir. Originally a solo pianist, holding a Master’s degree from the GSMD where he focused on French impressionism under Debussy specialist Paul Roberts, James has studied the organ principally with Richard Hobson (Grosvenor Chapel, Mayfair) since a boy at Merchant Taylors’ School, Northwood; other teachers over the years have included Gerard Brooks and Anne Marsden-Thomas and recently he gained the ARCO diploma in organ studies.
James read Music at Pembroke College, Oxford with composer Guy Newbury and is a passionate student of the Alexander Technique which significantly informs his playing and teaching. In addition to his performing work, James runs a busy private piano teaching practice together with teaching students at John Lyon School, Quainton Hall School and Dr Challoner’s Grammar School.
