The Artists

Geralyn Giovannetti is Professor of Oboe at Brigham Young University and a member of the faculty ensemble, Orpheus Winds. She received her DMA degree from the University of Michigan and is also a graduate of Western University in her native Canada. As a member of the award winning Canadian woodwind quintet, Essex Winds, she has recorded three compact discs. Geralyn is also a founding member of the Utah-based Sundance Trio. They have released two CD recordings on the Centaur label. Geralyn has been a Resident Artist at the Banff Center School of Fine Arts and was Principal Oboe of the Windsor Symphony Orchestra and the Canadian Chamber Orchestra.

Jaren Hinckley, clarinet professor at Brigham Young University, is the clarinetist with Orpheus Winds and the piano/clarinet duo ‘HDUO’. He has performed at music festivals, conventions and conservatories in Italy, Brazil, Mexico, Canada, Belgium, Wales, England, Scotland, and the U.S. He received his D. M. and M. M. music degrees from Florida State University and Indiana University. His compositions include works for clarinet and various chamber groups: publishers include Woodwindiana, TrevCo, and Classical Vocal Repertoire. He has presented his unique approach to music pedagogy based on the acting techniques of Konstantin Stanislavski at numerous universities and conferences.

Christian Smith is Professor of Bassoon at the BYU School of Music. Beyond his responsibilities with the bassoon studio, he also conducts the Symphony Orchestra, and regularly performs with Orpheus Winds, the resident faculty ensemble. An active orchestral musician, he has performed with the Utah Symphony, Utah Opera, Ballet West Orchestra, Toledo Symphony, Ann Arbor Symphony and the Michigan Chamber Players. Currently he is principal bassoonist with the Orchestra at Temple Square in Salt Lake City. As a studio musician, he has recorded under the Centaur, Telarc, Biddulph, Prima, Shadow Mountain, and Mormon Tabernacle Choir record labels, as well as for numerous film and television scores.
