The Artists

The Tondo Duo comprises saxophonist Sophia Elger and guitarist Declan Hickey. Passionate about new music, their repertoire largely consists of works by living composers, including Graham Lynch, Greg Caffrey and Stephen Goss.

Earlier this year, they commissioned a new work, ‘Conundrum’ by Jack Gionis, and gave its world premiere at St John’s Smith Square in their programme titled ‘Classical Rebellion’.

Other themed programmes in their repertoire include ‘Landscapes’ and ‘Impressions’. Following their live in session performance on BBC Radio 3’s ‘In Tune’, they are looking forward to working with Ciarán Farrell on a new suite for saxophone and guitar and with Bruno Quezada Chávez on a piece that explores the composer’s chromesthesia by combining music with the visual arts.

Recently, they recorded their arrangement of New Chautauqua by Pat Metheny with Forte Sessions. The duo has performed at venues including the Elgar Room at the Royal Albert Hall, Holy Trinity Sloane Square, and at the 1901 Arts Club.
