The Artists
Chinese American cellist Jason Ma has performed throughout the United States and Europe as a soloist and chamber musician. He has appeared at venues such as the Weill Recital Hall in New York City, St Martin-in-the-Fields in London, and the Southbank Centre. An avid chamber musician, Jason has performed recitals at Cambridge Summer Music and Eton College as a member of the Castor Quartet. He has also had the honour of performing chamber music alongside violinist Nikolaj Szeps-Znaider, and violist Máté Szücs.
Jason holds a Bachelor of Music from the Cleveland Institute of Music, and a Master of Arts from the Royal Academy of Music, where he received the Regency Award and a DipRAM for an outstanding final recital. Jason is currently pursuing an Advanced Diploma at the Royal Academy of Music, studying with Hannah Roberts.
Rapidly developing a reputation as one of the most innovative pianists of his generation, Julian Chan has given performances at numerous prestigious venues across the UK, including Wigmore Hall, Southbank Centre and St John’s Smith Square. Performing music by a particularly diverse range of composers, he has given alluring recitals featuring works by figures from Sweelinck to Messiaen and from Alkan to Rzewski, unifying these various styles in a captivating manner.
Julian has been awarded First Prize and Sonata Prize at the Nanyang International Music Competition, Singapore, First Prize at the Norah Sande Award, and First Prize at the Coulsdon and Purley Festival with his performance of Rachmaninoff’s Third Piano Concerto. A passionate composer and performer of new music, Julian has collaborated with eminent composers such as Hans Abrahamsen, Anna Thorvaldsdottir, Deborah Pritchard, Elena Langer and Peter Seabourne. Julian is currently recipient of the Aud Jebsen Fellowship at the Royal Academy of Music, where he studied with Ian Fountain and Michael Dussek.
