Ash Wednesday: Choral Eucharist with Imposition of Ashes
We mark the beginning of Lent with a lunchtime Choral Eucharist with Imposition of Ashes on Ash Wednesday, 14th February at 1:15pm.
Last year’s Palm Sunday fronds have been burnt to ash for marking crosses. A sign of penitence and an echo of words from the Book of Genesis: ‘for dust thou art, and unto dust shalt thou return’.
It is a service at which we are invited to reflect both upon our own mortality, and Christ’s offer to us of life in all its fullness. It engages with some of the most profound realities of human life, which renders it one of the most powerful and thought-provoking services of the year.
All are warmly welcome to join us as we enter the season of Lent together.
Setting: Mass in E flat Op 109 – Josef Rheinberger; Mass Op 130 – Joseph Jongen
Anthems: i) Call to remembrance, O Lord – Richard Farrant; ii) Emendemus in melius – Cristobal de Morales
A pre-recorded version of this service will also stream online on this page at the same time as the service in church, and on our pages at Facebook, YouTube and SoundCloud.
